Metallica: here is the Death Magnetic release date

We were the first to tell you the new Metallica album release date had been pushed until September (see that story here), now we are the first to tell you the exact date.

OK, drum roll... Or double-bass pedal rumble, in honor of Lars...

Sources close to the situation tell Stereo Warning that the new Metallica album, Death Magnetic, will be released on Monday, Sept. 15, in Europe and Tuesday, Sept. 16 in the United States. We have no idea about Japan, Australia or New Zealand, sorry.

Now let's all hope it kicks ass!

Trent Reznor releases new NIN album The Slip for free

"This one's on me," says Trent Reznor. Nine Inch Nails' brand new full length album The Slip is available as free download at NIN.com.

Unlike NIN's recently released Ghosts I-IV, there are no paid options available for The Slip, nor are there any retail partners. At present, The Slip is available exclusively as a free download at NIN.com. A physical configuration on CD and vinyl is in the works for a July release.

The Slip marks the first time Nine Inch Nails--or any artist of NIN's stature--has made its new album available completely and exclusively for free as a DRM-free digital download. The Slip is available as a high-quality MP3 or in a variety of lossless formats including, for the first time, a higher-than-CD quality 24 bit 96k version. All downloads include a PDF with credits and artwork.

Metallica album delayed again until September

The release of Metallica's new album has been delayed again, sources from the band's record label told Stereo Warning.

The album is now expected to hit the stores in September. Originally Lars Ulrich said it would be out in February, then the release was delayed till April. With the band still in the studio, it was clear that April was not gonna happen. Fans can take comfort in the fact that the last time the band spent this much time in the studio the year was 1991 and the result was the Black Album. One can only hope for similar results this time!

In the meantime, the boys have lined up a few dates for their upcoming European tour this summer. I guess that means they hope to be done recording by June...

New Metallica album delayed

The release of the new Metallica album will be delayed, sources from the band's record label told Stereo Warning.

The album, which was supposed to be released in February -- as Lars Ulrich had said several times -- is running behind schedule and will not be in stores until April at the latest, sources tell us. The band's website has recently said that the boys are still doing overdubs, although it did not give a date for the album release.

The Cure album postponed again

The new The Cure album has been postponed again, this time till next spring, in April or May, the record company says. Robert Smith is still recording.

It's the second time the release is postponed. First the album was supposed to come out in May, then it was pushed till October. Tantalizingly, Robert Smith is promising a double-album, mixed by none other than himself. Worth the wait, we say!

Metallica: live pictures

Better late than never. Finally we sifted through 400 images to pick the best shots of the kings of rock, Metallica, in action in Helsinki last month. Here's 'Papa Het' James Hetfield -- apparently he's learned a thing or two in beard technology from Rick Rubin. Check the full post to see Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich and Rob Trujillo kick some serious ass. Obviously, we're totally geeking out and can't wait for the new album (hey, after St. Anger, things can only get better, right?)

Everyone's welcome in Papa Het's house.

Kreviazuk says Avril Lavigne didn't steal her song after all

Chantal Kreviazuk is now retracting her accusation that Avril Lavigne stole one of her songs. But then she also says she never said such a thing. So why would she retract something she never said? Maybe the fact that both Kreviazuk and Lavigne are getting paid by the Nettwerk Music Group has something to do with it...

Below is the curious and somewhat rambling statement from Kreviazuk:

"I would like to apologize for any misconceptions concerning Avril Lavigne, which may have resulted from statements I made in my interview with Performing Songwriter Magazine. It was not my intention to call Avril's songwriting ability or ethics into question.

Velvet Revolver could implode at any time: Duff McKagan

This will be music to the ears of those who have predicted Velvet Revolver's demise from the moment the group was put together.

Bassist Duff McKagan tells Reuters: "There's big egos in this band. It could implode at any time." Duff says he was a bit saddened that his backing vocals and songwriting expertise were not required by singer Scott Weiland. You can read the whole piece by clicking here

Details on the new White Stripes album Icky Thump

The White Stripes will release their sixth album, "Icky Thump," on Third Man/Warner Bros. Records on June 19th.

Icky Thump was recorded over three weeks at Blackbird Studio in Nashville and is the second longest album of The White Stripes. How's that for an important and interesting stat! The name "Icky Thump" apparently comes from the northern English expression "ecky thump," which is used as an exclamation of surprise. Now, we've never been fans of this band, but we'll refrain from poking fun at them until we actually hear the record. Then we'll tell you how much it sucks! Okay, we're sorry...

Back to the record, then. The title track will be the first single on the album. "Conquest" is a cover, inspired by Patti Page's version from the 1950s. "St. Andrew" features the vocals of drummer Meg White. Their first spoken word track is "Rag And Bone" -- again, we'll hold off with the jokes for a little while...

Here's the track list:

Paris Hilton to be dropped by her record label

Music industry sources say Paris Hilton's label, Warner Brothers, is about to drop her, since her pathetic record totally bombed and sold only 75,000 copies in the United States.

Remember when she said her record was awesome? "People go crazy when they hear it," she was quoted as saying. "They love it. Everyone's like, 'who is this'? I like, cry when I listen to it, it's so good."

Maybe getting thrown out by her label will cause her to reassess her self-evaluation.

Britney Spears shaves head, goes to rehab

The Britney Spears saga is getting more and more bizarre.People magazine reports that Britney checked into rehab -- then shortly thereafter checked right back out! We don't have any pictures of that, but we definitely have a picture of Britney's new hairdo -- or lack thereof. Check out her shining dome in this Associated Press picture as she walks into a tattoo parlor to get some ink done. You can read all about it in this Associated Press story.

The Police will reunite for Grammy performance

It seems that lately we've written a lot of band reunion stories -- here's another good one: Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers will reunite to play as The Police at this year's Grammy awards. Check out the story here.

If you've seen Sting perform with Josh Freese on drums on his last solo tour, you know he can still rock those old Police songs, so I'm looking forward to this show...

Smashing Pumpkins to play live in Germany

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced their first lives shows in 7 years. According to their myspace page, they band will play two festivals in Germany, Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, in June. The question is, of course, who exactly is in the band nowadays? We know Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain are in, but they were also in that waste of time called Zwan. Here's wishing for D'Arcy's and James Iha's return.... or at the very least Melissa Auf der Maur!

BTW, I'll post soon an older but never-before-published interview in which Billy has a few choice words for James. Doesn't bode well for the reunion.... It's all good, I don't care who Billy hires as long as they rock out in true Gish style and don't play any Zwan songs!
